Is blogging a distraction or a help?

Spent a few days outside recently and not as much time spent in front of the PC.
Managed to get a little sunburned for my troubles!!

Now back in front of the screen, I'm wondering if blogging is really worthwhile?
I read lots of blogs of people from all over the world and have found a varying degree of interest.

Very quickly, so it seems, a couple of hours passby almost un-noticed and work which should have been completed has been set aside until later. (Not a good idea)!
After family, work comes first and trawling blogs is well down the pecking order, but without realising it, the blogs seem to be working there way up in importance instead of down!

I suppose we have to consider the benefits and in truth, there aren't many in favour of blogging for blogging sake, (like this one), but there are distinct advantages in blogging for business and advertising your wares completely free of charge! (yorkshirepropertynetwork.blogspot.com).

Either way, I'll keep on feeding the distraction for quite a while yet.

Working from Home

I've been working from my home now for many a year.
Mainly just as a base and where, like many self employed people, the purpose was for just keeping the books up to date and compiling the necessary quotations and invoices.

From making maximum use of our dining room table to slowly over time, converting an upstairs spare bedroom into a fully equipped office.

First a desk, then a PC and a printer and so on, until, "Where the heck shall I store the stuff I previously stored in the spare room"!

(Just one of the many problems)!!

Over the last couple of years, and because of my work evolution, I've found myself almost constantly working from my PC at home.

Yes there are positives but there are also plenty of negatives.

Positives;
  • No additional office costs.
  • Work when I want.
  • Choose the working hours that suit me.
  • Less motoring expenses.
  • Lower everyday food costs, Cafe's, sandwich shops etc.
  • Fewer tailoring costs. I'm generally sat in a tee shirt and shorts and only get "dressed" for meetings etc.
  • No staff disputes. Although I do piss myself off now and then.

Negatives;

  • Not having a rigid work patern can lead to working ridiculous hours at ridiculous times.
  • Sit too long at the desk, leading to eye strain, backache, etc.
  • Distractions. Especially when other family members are at home. Social networking sites, etc
  • Boredom
  • Irregular eating patterns.
  • Irregular sleeping patterns
  • Lack of exercise.
  • Lack of social integration.

These lists can go on and on.....

I have considered coverting our garden house into an office so that at least I can "go out to work" and reintroduce regularity, and maybe that's an option but not just yet.

Would I swap working from home for a regular 9 to 5?
I doubt it! (Never say never)!!

Do I enjoy working from home?
Yes.

Do I prefer self employment?
Definately!
(Although, you don't have to be self employed to work from home).

Would I like to earn more money?
Yes!

Would I be interested in learing how to make more money working from home?
Yes!

Would I like to be able to earn more money and work less hours?
Without a doubt!

Would I sudscribe to the so called "Get rich quick schemes" and Scammers?
Would I bollocks!!

Would I like to add or increase a passive income in order for me to free up my time ad spend less hours in front of my PC?
Yes!
